European Masters: Judd Trump breezes into quarter-finals

World number one Judd Trump raced into the quarter-finals of the European Masters with a 5-0 whitewash of Jackson Page in Milton Keynes.

Trump had far too many guns for Micheal Holt earlier in the day and continued his ominous form only a few hours later, reeling off four breaks of 50+ as Page was left chained to his chair for much of the match.

Trump was quickly out of the traps when putting together contributions of 72 and 83 to take the opening two frames, but the pivotal moment in the contest came in frame three when Page seemed sure to get a foothold in the match when in first with 57.

However, when the Welshman broke down with the frame still live, Trump stepped in with a ruthless run of 70 that extended his lead to 3-0 and dealt his opponent a stinging body-blow.

Trump added a break of 61 in frame four to put himself on the cusp of victory and he duly wrapped up the match by edging a topsy-turvy fifth frame in which both players had their chances.

In a repeat of their World Championship quarter-final last month, Trump will face Kyren Wilson on Saturday after the Kettering potter knocked in a break of 120 in his 5-2 defeat of Anthony McGill.

Defending champion Neil Robertson kept his title hopes alive with a comfortable 5-2 win over Pang Junxu. Breaks of 69, 71, 56 and 97 did the damage for the Australian who will meet Shaun Murphy in the last eight.

Ding Junhui put together runs of 88, 81 and 78 to reel off three frames on the spin and close out his 5-2 victory over Mark Allen in fine style.

Up next for Ding will be Mark Selby after the latter produced breaks of 114, 72, 64 and 54 to come from 4-1 behind to beat Stuart Bingham 5-4.

Rookies Peter Devlin and Aaron Hill have been two of the success stories of the week but their hopes were ended by Martin Gould and Yan Bingtao respectively.
