International Championship: Mark Selby cruises to title

World number one Mark Selby cruised to victory in the International Championship in Daqing, thrashing home favourite Ding Junhui 10-1 in Sunday's final.

Selby, who also beat Ding in the World Championship final in Sheffield in May, won eight out of nine frames in the opening session as an off-form Ding managed a top break of just 47.

Ding led 54-0 in the first frame of the second session and looked set to seal the frame after splitting the remaining reds, but missed a relatively simple pot to the corner and Selby cleared to the pink.

And the 33-year-old from Leicester sealed the surprisingly one-sided win in style with a break of 78 to consolidate his position at the top of the world rankings with the first prize of £125,000.

It was the second consecutive event in China in which Selby and Ding had contested the final, with Ding winning 10-6 in the Shanghai Masters last month.

"Ding is a fantastic player but he didn't really play his game today," Selby told worldsnooker.com.

"That was down to me playing some good match snooker and not giving him many chances. I didn't miss anything easy and I was happy with the way I stayed focused and I closed the match out. I'm really happy to get another ranking title under my belt.

"I've had a great start to the season and I'm really enjoying my snooker. Hopefully I can stay at the top of the rankings for as long as possible."

Ding missed out on what would have been the 13th ranking title of his career, and had to settle for the runner-up prize of £65,000. He said: "I hoped to turn the match around but I wasn't playing well. I wasn't concentrating on the match today so the result didn't bother me much."
