The ITV4 cameras offer viewers the best of both codes on Friday with the return of jumping at Cheltenham and a couple of decent races on the Flat at Doncaster where TRANCHEE is taken to continue his fine run of form in the six-furlong Vertem Investing In The Future Handicap.

The former Dermot Weld inmate has progressed well for David Loughnane this season, scoring at Wolverhampton (7f) in July and then on this course (six-and-a-half furlongs) at last month's St Leger meeting when heading Sunset Breeze half a furlong from home.

Tranchee put in another solid effort at York subsequently when chasing home the well handicapped Gulliver (who had won the same race 12 months earlier) with 19 rivals behind him and, while up another 2lb, this is a bit less competitive.

A drop in trip in his last two starts seems to have improved Pat Cosgrave's mount who looks sure to go close on this return to Town Moor.

At Cheltenham, the squareintheair.com Handicap Hurdle over two miles and five furlongs looks ripe for a decent-priced punt and YOUNG LIEUTENANT can prove well weighted.

The Warren Greatrex-trained bumper winner really caught my eye when making much of the running before going under by just under three lengths to Sir Valentine at Newbury (2m) last November only to prove disappointing subsequently.

Something certainly seemed to be amiss in those later starts but Young Lieutenant bounced back first time out following a wind operation (and with a tongue tie fitted) at Wetherby (2m4f) last month when he travelled well throughout for Jack Tudor and beat the promising Fortunate Fred in decisive fashion.

The latter was in the process of serving it up to Marine One before falling at the last on his previous start on the same course and, taking the ratings of Sir Valentine and Marine One as a guide, the selection could be at least 5lb well in here with the highly promising conditional Tudor again taking off 5lb.
