Our in-form star columnist takes us through his runners around the country on Saturday, including some live chances at headquarters.
Onto Saturday and Red Balloons makes her debut in division one of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes. She’s quite a nice, sharp filly who goes well. It’s probably the warmer of the divisions but we like her.
Akela Moon goes in division two. She’s by Bungle Inthejungle who can do no wrong at the moment. She’s a very honest filly who tries hard and it would be no surprise to see her go well on debut.
Great Prospector heads down to Newmarket for the Betway King Charles II Stakes. He’s been gelded since running in the Free Handicap because hand on heart he’s been a little disappointing. We’re going back to basics here over seven furlongs and see what happens but hopefully the operation will help him.
We're double-handed in the Betway Handicap. I thought Showmethedough would run well at Chester last week but he just couldn’t cope with five furlongs around there. He’d been working really well before that – he went off favourite and we thought he’d win – but we haven’t done much with him since.
The step up to six furlongs will suit here and he’s capable of going close if we’re not coming back too quick. He may eventually be a seven-furlong horse but he’ll have learned a lot from Chester.
We tried to win a novice stakes with Lucky Lucky Man but it didn’t quite work out. I don’t think he’s thrown in off 82 here but we’ll give him a spin and see what happens.
Keska is a big filly who will definitely be winning races at some stage. It would be nice to see her open her account on debut in the Betway EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes although it could be a decent race.
Aurag is a very genuine and honest horse who we start out in the Saint-Gobain Weber Novice Auction Stakes at Doncaster. He’s had a couple of spins on the grass at Malton but tends to work better at home than away. He’s very fit for his first start and I hope he goes well for his owners.
Odds On Oli has been progressing, winning his last two races – albeit on very different ground to what he’ll face in the sunbets.co.uk Handicap. I don’t see why he won’t go on it though and he has a nice low weight. I was always surprised he wasn’t able to win a maiden but he’s got his act together now.
Enrolment reappears in the Sun Bets Follow Us On Twitter Handicap. We’re happy with her but it’s a warm little contest, very competitive.
