Timeform's US racing expert Mark Milligan has a couple of selections including one running at Santa Anita in the early hours UK time.
Americanrevolution made his debut at Keeneland in October in a race that that has thrown up stacks of subsequent winners, not the least the victor on the day Mandaloun, who will likely be awarded the Kentucky Derby sometime in the near future once the disqualification of Medina Spirit is officially confirmed.
Not only did Americanrevolution run really well in fourth, he did it in eye-catching fashion having been slowly away and green in the early part of the race. His performance is also worth upgrading a little, as he got in a barging match with Mandaloun in the home straight before staying on nicely.
A stable switch from Rodolphe Brisset to Todd Pletcher has also taken place since that debut, and while Brisset himself is a perfectly capable trainer, a move to Pletcher’s barn has to be viewed as a positive. Lasix first time is the icing on the cake for a selection that looks overpriced at 7/2.
Tonight’s second selection takes place in the wee small hours but could be well worth the wait (although I’ll be watching on video the next morning!).
Simon Callaghan’s first-timer starters tend to improve for the experience, though his good ones are more than capable of winning first up, and Sea Dreamer could well be above average.
A $250K daughter of top US sire Into Mischief, Sea Dreamer has worked stylishly for this debut, including in company with Grade 3-placed Paige Anne.
Although it’s always worth treating workouts with a pinch of salt, the selection did appear to travel better than Paige Anne over 5f earlier this month, and if she can produce what she’s been showing in the mornings she’ll prove tough to beat on debut.
