Judd Trump turned on the style in the evening session to eventually see off John Higgins 9-4 in the quarter-finals of the Tour Championship.
It was really hard work for the world number one through the afternoon session in Milton Keynes, going in 5-3 up after several scruffy frames which could have gone either way.
But Trump stamped his authority by rattling off the first three frames of the evening, including a fine 135, and while Higgins clawed one back, Trump rounded things off with a quality break of 68.
"It was a tough game where neither of us played that great," said Trump.
"I could have easily have been behind after the first session so I was very happy to be leading. In the second session I just put my foot on the gas, I felt more comfortable and I enjoyed it a lot more."
The winner will now face Stephen Maguire - who was in scintillating form on Saturday - in the last four of the Coral-backed event.
