Sound Advice was hampered early on at Chester recently and his effort in fourth should be marked up.

The first two have let the form down a little bit since but Keith Dalgleish’s nine-year-old knows Chester extremely well and looks weighted to strike in the Caldwell Construction Handicap (2.55).

He’s got four course and distance wins to his name already, two of which came off exactly the same mark (98) from which he competes on Saturday and it’s also encouraging to see that he’s twice won before on his second start of the season.

The recent comeback run should have put him cherry-ripe for this and stall one is obviously a significant boost as long as he can break on terms which isn’t usually an issue.

He looks the best bet on a bumper day but Edward Lewis is fancied at York, despite the seriously competitive nature of the Mansionbet Sprint Stakes (3.40).

He’s put in two good efforts since returning to action this season including when fifth to the reopposing El Astronaute here last week. Another 1lb drop in the weights looks generous on that performance and it appears a matter of time before he’s back in the winner’s enclosure.

A return to six furlongs seems likely before the season’s out but he’s sharp enough for this test and should get a good pitch from stall 12.

Algometer looks well placed to make a winning comeback in the Netbet Mobile Bet10Get10 Festival Stakes at Goodwood.

He’s a Group Three and Listed winner already but missed most of last year after suffering injury.

There’s a chance he could come on for the run but first time out has been a good time to catch him in the past and the recent rain will suit David Simcock’s charge.
