Richard Fahey guides us through his team for Pontefract on Wednesday

Our columnist has eight runners at Pontefract on Wednesday including a racecourse debut for Sands Of Mali's half-brother. Check out his thoughts.

1.45 Pontefract – Internationalangel

She had a little setback and hasn’t run for a long time. The outing will do her the world of good but six furlongs on this ground at Pontefract will suit her.

2.20 Pontefract – Sands Of Giza

He’s Sands Of Mali’s half-brother who has grown and grown. He’s a huge horse. He shapes OK and while the run will do him good, he’d have a chance on debut if this is an ordinary maiden.

2.50 Pontefract – Aleneva

I got caught out in the Stay Smart With tiesplanet.com Handicap. I spoke to the clerk of the course who told me it would divide and it didn’t. I’ve ended up with four in it which isn’t ideal but then we’ve been struggling to find races for them.

She isn’t the biggest and has a big weight to carry here but is very fit and very well and we’re pleased to have got in somewhere with her.

2.50 Pontefract – Hurcle

He’s been balloted out of races five times already so had to run and the track at Pontefract will suit him. He’s very fit and very well.

2.50 Pontefract – Three Coins

Six furlongs on this ground will be ideal for him and he’s another we’ve tried and failed to get in races five times. He’s ready to go.

2.50 Pontefract – Exceptional

She’s a filly I like. She had a setback after running at Royal Ascot and has been off since. She’s back moving well again and seems to be in good form. The run might just put her right but she’ll definitely win races from a mark of 74.

3.50 Pontefract – Doctor Cross

He came back a little late and I’m just a fraction worried he’s going to need it. He’s capable on his day.

4.20 Pontefract – Defence Treaty

We’re stepping him up in trip here. Visually at Newcastle last week he shaped as though it would suit and there’s plenty of stamina on his dam’s side, a half-brother won a bumper, hurdle and a chase. It’s an interesting day for him and if he stays he’ll go close.
