Annie Rose showed good speed over 6f at Redcar until fading out of contention and a drop back to 5f should suit but MISS MILBY can make it third-time lucky. She’s been slowly away in her starts to date but was only beaten a neck on both occasions and will surely open her account in a race like this if breaking on terms. Miss Fernanda hails from a yard in form but her pedigree suggests she’ll need further. Queen Of Rio, by the same sire, has travelled over from Ireland so is definitely worth a market check.

First-time blinkers could help Aghast, who has dropped to a lenient mark, but Mick Appleby’s charge is better over 6f. Crosse Fire would be thereabouts if fully wound-up but most of these have had a run. Arnold needs faster going so this is best left to ALBA DEL SOLE, who has been a reformed character since the sport resumed. He’s won twice at Leicester, including on good to soft, and can defy a penalty in this.

As none of those with experience look world-beaters, it will be worth watching the newcomers for any market support. Archie Watson’s Lady Danger is one possibility and Blowing Wind is a half-brother to speedy Listed winner Punita Arora. Fast Emma was very green at Chepstow and didn’t grasp the nettle until it was far too late. She will know more today but that comment also applies to Newmarket fourth ATASER so he gets the nod despite the claims of Beverley runner-up Ready Freddie Go.

ROUND THE ISLAND (NAP) won on his only previous appearance here and looked to be back on-song when runner-up to Avenue Of Stars at Pontefract last week. He’s been lowered a further 3lb so is the logical selection in a race that won’t take much winning. Oriental Splendour would have a chance at the weights but hasn’t raced since September and has done all of his winning over 5f. Best of the rest may be the unexposed three-year-old Champagne Angel.

Susie Javea has placed at Thirsk and Catterick recently and looks to have a good opportunity in this if she continues heading in the right direction. However, we just prefer HERBERT POCKET, who lost many lengths at the start over this trip at Thirsk last week but still managed top grab fourth spot. If he gets away on terms today, compensation awaits. Ontheradar is a pound out of the handicap but has the blinds on today and could go well at a price so is preferred to Henry Spiller’s pair Fair Warning and Sea Willow. Newmarket raider Jaaneh is consistent and finally getting some leniency from the handicapper so can’t be ignored.

VOLCANO BAY looked sure to win when hitting the front at Catterick 12 days ago but faltered in the closing stages and eventually finished fourth. Dropping back a couple of furlongs, Ismail Mohammed’s three-year-old should hang on this time. Dangeroffizz finished sixth in a different division of the same classified stakes having made the early running so has something to find. Buzz Lightyere may be the pick of the remainder ahead of Ivors Involvement.

Though a 20-race maiden, SPARK OF WAR could be a cut above this bunch. He was staying on over a mile on his reappearance and ran well over 1m4f in a handicap at Catterick last summer on similar going. Having won at Newcastle in December, Optima Petamus was second twice at Southwell at the turn of year so handles different surfaces, though is only 1-28 on Turf. Seven For A Pound would have a chance on his best form but The Trendy Man was engaged yesterday at Ayr.

Carrying a 5lb penalty, Pontefract winner SUDONA has a welter burden but is only giving 3lb to the less-exposed three-year-olds Choral Work and Escalade taking into account weight-for-age calculations. She’ll handle any give in the ground whereas her likely market rivals still have a bit to prove on the surface. Appointed is a course and distance winner but has been out of sorts so far this year so Party Planner and East End Girl look best of the rest.

Two Sox may be capable of better this year but this run will probably be needed and the Easterby gelding looks too close in the weights to MARIE’S GEM. The top weight, a half-brother to four winners, has placed over 1m2f at Redcar and Bath in recent weeks and should handle the extra quarter-mile. Brodick usually runs her race and Chelmsford fourth Lord Warburton is tried in cheekpieces in an attempt to wrest further improvement.
