Horse racing tips for Saturday: Gossip column

Our top gossip column is back with a look at the weekend's action with Clive Cox set to unleash a son of Harry Angel at Newbury.

Saleymm - 3.35 Newbury

Saleymm just missed out on winning the Lincoln three weeks ago and he is fancied to go one better in the Highclere Racing 30th Anniversary Spring Cup on Saturday.

The Crisford team was confident of a big run in the first big handicap of the turf campaign, and it did not look misplaced when he struck for home approaching two out.

However, the lack of a previous run just told in the closing stages and he was beaten by Johan. Connections have been very happy with his preparation since that outing, and believe he has come on plenty as a result.

No Recollection - 5.55 Newbury

No Recollection did not quite come up to what was expected of him last season, but he should be a bit stronger now and is back on the mark he won his only race at Salisbury last spring.

He faces a competitive re-introduction in the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire Handicap, but is reported to be ready for the fray, and rates a sporting each-way investment.

Sooghan - 6.15 Nottingham

Sooghan, a stablemate of Saleymm, should go well on his second racecourse appearance in the Racing TV Profits Maiden Stakes at Nottingham.

There was plenty to like about his debut effort behind True Accolade at Windsor 12 days ago, where he showed plenty of inexperience after a slow start, but still ran on to finish third, ten lengths clear of the fourth.

He has worked nicely since, and this looks a good opportunity.

Laguna Veneta - 6.45 Nottingham

Eve Johnson Houghton hit winning form with a vengeance at Newmarket and Bath on Thursday, and Laguna Veneta should go well for her in the Follow @Racing TV on Twitter Handicap.

Lightly raced, she has run two sound races on the all weather so far this year, and the form of the latest effort behind the Gosden-trained favourite Belt Buckle was boosted by the second Tahasun's recent third in a maiden at Chantilly.

Stable jockey Charles Bishop has just the one ride on the card, and she looks reasonably weighted for her debut in a handicap.

Thunder Moor - 3.47 Musselburgh

Thunder Moor should run a big race for Kevin Ryan on his racecourse debut in the Betway EBF Novice Stakes at Musselburgh.

The Hambleton trainer's juveniles have been running well so far this turf season and this son of Dandy Man has been showing up well in his prelims on the home gallops.

DELETE

Isolate - 2.44 Haydock

Isolate, a stablemate of No Recollection, is reported in good form and is fancied to follow up his win at Ludlow last time in the Challenger Middle Distance Chase Series Final at Haydock.

Although he only just managed to cling on for victory at the Shropshire course, the runner up Chambard has given the form a lift with two subsequent wins including his success at the Cheltenham Festival, and at six, the selection is still open to further improvement.

The sharp flat track will suit, and he is still at the right end of the handicap.

An Tailleur - 4.29 Haydock

An Tailleur has had a break since winning three of his five starts in the first half of the season, and he can bounce back to winning form on his return in the Challenger Stayers Hurdle Final.

The subsequent wins of Marie's Rock in a listed event at Warwick and the Grade 1 Close Brothers Mares Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival tends to suggest he faced a tough task in receiving only 2lbs from Nicky Henderson's star mare when chasing her home at Kempton, and this should prove a slightly less exacting task off the same mark.

Redemption Time - 1.40 Newbury, Sunday

Clive Cox loves to run some of his better two year olds just down the road from his Beechdown Stables, and he saddles the well bred Redemption Time in the Joe Mercer Memorial Maiden at Newbury on Sunday.

Cox will be delighted to win with this son of Harry Angel and not only because he trained this first season sire to be Champion Sprinter as a three year old.

The dam Red Box was also pretty smart and she is a daughter of Confidential Lady, who won the French Oaks for Sir Mark Prescott.

Redemption Time carries the colours of both dam and grand dam Cheveley Park. A big run is expected on debut, but the opposition does look quite stiff, and whatever happens here, he should be noted.

Mine's A Double - 5.05 Newbury, Sunday

Mine's A Double is held in some regard after winning three from three last season, and is also fancied to go well for Cox in the Dubai Duty Free Handicap.

A powerfully made son of Mukhadram, he looks the sort to improve from three to four, and should be sharp enough to make his presence felt in this interesting five furlong dash.
