Fran Berry 'sore' following Chepstow drama

Fran Berry is will be back in action on Thursday following a nasty incident at Chepstow and he's hoping Magic Circle can give a good account at Sandown.

The jockey was unshipped from David Evans' runner Give Em A Clump when leading the way in the seven-furlong handicap and while "stiff and sore", Berry is thankful that no bones were broken.

The loose horse went on to prove hard to catch at Chepstow, before being grabbed in dramatic circumstances by At The Races presenter Hayley Moore.

Berry is back in action on Lingfield's afternoon card before heading to Sandown on Thursday evening, where he retains his partnership with Chester Cup hero Magic Circle in the Group Three Matchbook VIP Henry II Stakes.

Berry told sportinglife.com: "I'm a bit stiff and sore and have a bruised foot but I was very lucky in the end and it could obviously have been a lot worse. I've had some physio today and will be back riding at Lingfield after being checked over in the morning.

"I had a suspension on Wednesday but I'm happy with the day's rest to be honest and should be back to form for the rest of the week.

"Magic Circle is one look forward to in the evening and it looks a good opportunity for him to get Group-placed form over a staying trip as he'll need that if Marwan Koukash is keen to aim towards the Melbourne Cup later in the year.

"I'm excited to see him pitched into this higher level and while it looks very competitive, there's possibly no obvious star as there was last year in subsequent Gold Cup winner Big Orange.

"John Gosden's horse, Weekender, won well at Chelmsford and his form last year is quite strong too. But our horse is clearly on the up and it'd be great if he can win.

"The tactics at Chester weren't pre-meditated, it wasn't really the plan to be held up but he was a bit taken off his feet early and I'd say I'll look to sit wherever he feels comfortable this time. There's no excuses really at Sandown as it's such a lovely track."
