Timeform greyhounds preview and free betting tips: Joe Nordoff selections for Newcastle live TV action

Newcastle’s RPGTV All England Cup Final meeting kicks off a tremendous week of open-race action on Thursday, and Timeform’s Joe Nordoff provides his best bets in the big races.

Recommended bets

3pts win Blackstone Milo (Trap 6) in 6.51 at 11/10

2pts win Bramble Reggie (Trap 2) in 8.46 at 13/8

1pt win Waltham Magic (Trap 6) in 8.12 at 2/1

0.5pt win Sams Elle (Trap 3) in 7.26 at 11/2

Puppy events at Newcastle always tend to encourage a high-class entry and this year has proven no different ahead of the RPGTV Puppy Cup Final, the race taking centre stage at 6.51. Ted Soppitt is no stranger to big-race success, the handler having a host of leading performers through his hands over the years and his BLACKSTONE MILO (Trap 6) looks another to roll off the production line. An October 18 whelp he’s undoubtedly something out of the ordinary, recording a most impressive Timeform figure of 133 when making his second career start a winning one in the heats last week (recorded time of 28.47). Along with Nice As Ice (Trap 5, TF127) the pair set a clear standard on their exploits seven days ago and it may well be a race decided at the boxes, with the former preferred to trap clever from the striped jacket and emerge victorious.

Droopys Dazzler (Trap 1, 7.26) justified his position at the head of the market for the RPGTV Sprint Cup with a cracking display last week. Out-trapped by Swift Guard, he showed a fine burst of pace to scoot clear in an impressive 16.75. On the back of that he unsurprisingly improved his Timeform Master rating, that now standing at 128. Angela Harrison’s charge is worthy of plenty of respect on the back of that but will need to be clever at the boxes now operating from the red jacket and at the forecast odds, there may well be a spot of value in the shape of SAMS ELLE (Trap 3, TF117). A fellow semi-final winner, the August 18 whelp in stark contrast has done her winning from trap 1 but the switch to the white jacket is expected to hold no fears and, having beaten aforementioned Droopys Dazzler on her respective debut, odds as big as 11/2 with Sky Bet are just too tempting to ignore.

The RPGTV Angel of the North remains a fine fixture in the calendar for bitches and the final has served up a real cracker with a mix of experience and youth in opposition. Coolavanny Bani (Trap 2) sets the standard in the heats a week ago her Timeform rating now standing at 124. She promises to have too many gears for Easy On (Trap 1) on her immediate inside but there is definite potential for scrimmaging on the rails with Ballymac Berry (Trap 3, TF 112) and Black Olive (Trap 4 TF 113) easily matching the first named on sectional ratings and also expected to be moving left at the boxes. With that in mind the percentage call is to side with WALTHAM MAGIC (Trap 6, TF 125) to be the beneficiary of the expected scenario. A much-improved bitch post lockdown she’s a strong runner at the 480-metre trip and is better than she could show last time particularly when seizing a clear run. Moanteen Enable (Trap 5, TF 113) would be a danger at likely longer odds if trapping as she did last time.

The feature RPGTV All England Cup comes at 8.46, a tremendous final on paper and a race that may be decided at the boxes. Waikiki Lad (Trap 1, TF 135) needs no introduction and booked his place with a comfortable second in the heats last week. However, he seemingly had no excuses behind BRAMBLE REGGIE (Trap 2, TF 130) who showed the better early pace to the bend in defeating the former by one and three-quarter lengths. His record from Trap 1 stands at 0-4 and he may not be up to reversing those placings on that evidence.

Jumeirah Sprite (Trap 3, TF 121) was one of the beneficiaries of Levante Beach’s slow start last week but in truth did well to overcome a first-bend bump in any case when mastering Bower Luke (Trap 5, TF123) and he shouldn’t be underestimated. A quick break was enough to see Knockboy Jet (Trap 4, TF 118) hold northern raider Roedhelm Tiger (Trap 6) but he’ll need to have his trapping boots on again if he’s to pass this test.

Bramble Reggie isn’t far off the veteran stage but it was hard not to be impressed with his all- round performance last week and if clearing Waikiki Lad, Steve Anderson’s striking white and blue may well prove a tough nut to crack on the front end.
