Day four report

Daniel Berger successfully defended his FedEx St Jude Classic title in Memphis.

The 24-year-old's one-shot victory saw him follow in the footsteps of David Toms, who won the trophy in 2003 and 2004, after the American claimed his maiden PGA Tour title at this tournament last year.

Berger produced four birdies in his immaculate four-under par 66, matching his round on Saturday, to finish ahead of Charl Schwartzel and Kim Meen-whee on 10 under.

A birdie on the 15th saw him move clear of the pack, which at one point included nine players tied for the lead, but he was made to wait for his win to be confirmed as Rafael Cabrera Bello continued his final round.

Yet the Spaniard, joint overnight leader, failed to make up the ground, meaning Berger could celebrate his second PGA Tour victory.

Cabrera Bello was one of five players to finish two shots behind Berger, along with Americans Billy Horschel, Braden Thornberry, Chez Reavie and Kevin Chappell.

Phil Mickelson was seven under par, one shot ahead of Adam Scott, Stewart Cink and Ben Crane among others.

Cink, level overnight with Cabrera Bello and Crane on nine under, was out in front and setting his sights on a first PGA Tour title since 2009 until he ran into trouble on the back nine.

The American suffered bogies on the 10th and 15th and a double on the 11th to slide out of contention.

Day three report

A round-of-the-day 65 from Rafa Cabrera Bello gave him a share of the lead going into the final day of the FedEx St Jude Classic in Memphis.

The Spaniard, winless on the PGA Tour, sank seven birdies to join Stewart Cink and Ben Crane at the top of the leaderboard on nine under.

Cabrera Bello could have been the sole leader but for an untimely bogey on the 17th.

Cink went round in 69 after a tricky back nine, where he bogeyed three holes, while Crane improved his overnight position with a 68.

But it was not a great day for the three men who held the overnight lead as Chez Reavie, Sebastian Munoz and Charl Schwartzel all fell off the pace.

Colombian Munoz had the most damaging day as he shot a five-over-par 75, mainly thanks to two double bogeys on the back nine, while a triple-bogey saw Schwartzel card a 74.

Luke List and Chad Campbell are both on eight under and will make a charge for victory on Sunday.

Day two report

Three men share the halfway lead at the FedEx St Jude Classic in Memphis, but Rickie Fowler's US Open preparations suffered a blow as he missed the cut.

Fowler, the only member of the top 10 playing on the PGA Tour this week, said there was no better way to plan for a major than to be out on the course, but he will be restricted to just practice rounds now ahead of the second major of the year next week.

The 28-year-old, who shot 74 on the opening day, could only go round in even par meaning his four-over score was not enough to keep him around for the weekend.

Former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel, American Chez Reavie and Colombian Sebastian Munoz will definitely be involved, though, as they share the lead on nine under.

Reavie's round of 65, consisting of three birdies and an eagle, surged him up the leaderboard, while Schwartzel would have been sole leader had he not bogeyed his penultimate hole.

Stewart Cink is a shot behind the trio on eight under, with Ben Crane on seven under.

The following players missed the cut:

142 Hudson Swafford 75 67, Garrett Osborn 72 70, Bob Estes 70 72, Jim Furyk 72 70, Miguel Angel Carballo (Arg) 72 70, Bryson De Chambeau 69 73, Boo Weekley 72 70, Camilo Villegas (Col) 70 72, Carl Pettersson (Swe) 69 73, Jason Bohn 72 70

Day one report

Rickie Fowler's preparations for next week's US Open have been hindered as he battles to make the cut at the FedEx St Jude Classic in Memphis.

The 28-year-old is the only player in the world's top 10 competing on the PGA Tour this week after saying there is no better build-up for a major than playing.

But he might be having second thoughts after an opening round 74 left him four over par and in grave danger of not being around during the weekend.

Starting on the 10th, he was undone by two terrible holes during his first nine, double-bogeying the 13th and then triple-bogeying the 15th.

Fowler is 10 shots off the lead, shared by four men on six under.

American trio Matt Every, Scott Brown and Stewart Cink and Colombian Sebastian Munoz all carded 64s, with former Masters champion Charl Schwartzel a shot back on five under.
