Dale Tempest: Football betting tips & insight including best bets for the weekend on Man Utd v Watford & Arsenal v Everton

Dale Tempest has three best bets this week, where he's backing cards at Old Trafford, Everton at the Emirates and Millwall at Wigan.

A few years ago Gary Rowett was one of the most highly sought-after English managers in the lower leagues of English football.

Successful spells at Burton and Birmingham had his managerial star shining brightly with impressive results against a backdrop of small budgets and turbulent ownership.

Then he went to Stoke.

There are many big clubs who can ruin a reputation and that’s exactly what happened as he failed to get the old pros of the failing Potters to get on board with his fresh ideas.

He was appointed Millwall manager on October 21 last year and since then has pretty much gone under the radar with regards the job he’s doing at the New Den.

Dale's best bets

However, the Lions have lost only four league games in 21 since he took over with two of those losses coming against high-flyers Leeds (they led 2-0) and WBA. So two losses in 19 v the rest of the league. Nine wins, eight draws and two losses. They are impressive numbers.

Gary Rowett knows how to NOT lose football matches. His team are well organised and superbly drilled on set pieces both attacking and defending. His first away game was a 2-1 loss to Reading on the November 2 but since then he’s lost one road trip and that was the mad game at Elland Road where they led 2-0 at half time.

He’s drawn four and won four so the level ball offer at relegation-threatened Wigan on Saturday looks too good to be true. There has been one goal in Millwall’s last three away games. 0-0 at Stoke and Sheffield Wednesday and a typical 1-0 win at Preston with a goal from a corner.

The best two home records in the whole of the EFL championship are held by Derby and Preston and, yes, Millwall have won at both grounds.

Now Wigan are fighting to avoid relegation but have the 22nd best home record with 5-5-6 home numbers but, look a bit closer and you see four of those wins came in the first six home games of the season.

They have won one of the last 10 home games a 2-1 win against free-falling Sheffield Wednesday with a 90th minute winner.

The Xg numbers aren’t outstanding for Millwall, hence why we have a level ball game but we have a manager who knows how to win games at this level and even if he doesn’t win he very rarely losses. I’m backing Millwall.

Premier League best bets

Manchester United will play their third game in seven days at home to a refreshed Watford so don’t be surprised if the hornets are lively and competitive after their two-week break and cause the Red Devil’s plenty of problems.

I certainly won’t be backing United at 1/2, however, once again I’ll have to be on the over 40+ booking points in the game. Hopefully, Nigel Pearson will as usual have his side fired up and ready to rumble.

And finally, apart from Liverpool, Everton are the in-form team of the Premier League.

Carlo Ancelotti has calmed the club and dressing room down and brought some much-needed sanity to Goodson Park proceeding.

Everton get a full +1 handicap start at Arsenal on Sunday which looks more than fair against the misfiring Gunners.
