Would Gerwyn Price have beaten Phil Taylor in his prime? Paul Nicholson discusses this in his new Sporting Life Darts Q&A

Gerwyn Price produced one of the finest performances ever seen to win the world title, but would it have been good enough to defeat the legendary Phil Taylor in his prime?

This was just one of the topics thrown at Sporting Life Darts columnist Paul Nicholson during his first Q&A session of the new season, and it's certainly a tough one to answer.

Price's checkout percentage was almost 80% for much of his breathtaking 7-3 victory over Gary Anderson while he also broke the record for the highest set average in World Championship history with a mark of 136.64 in the sixth.

His finishing-line jitters took the shine off his figures and ended up with an average of 99 but there's no doubt the way he played en route to opening up a 6-2 lead could well have blown a prime Taylor away.

The Power averaged over 100 in seven of his 14 victorious PDC World Championship finals, including that astonishing 110.94 against Raymond van Barneveld in 2009, so maybe on that latter day, Price would have been kicked into touch.

There were many other questions put to the former major winner, pundit and coach Nicholson, surrounding issues such as Q School, Simon Whitlock's points, whether Taylor used to put him off by breaking wind, how to stop the elbow from dropping, Jockey Wilson, changing stances during a match, MAD, this year's PDC calendar and much more.
